Possible challenges you may face during use
Some applications might need minor tweaks to run properly on DaDesktop
Challenges with Fresh Start cloning and how to resolve them
In most cases, applications behave as expected when set up on a Fresh Start machine within DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of programs may not function correctly after cloning, requiring a few additional steps to restore normal behavior.
- Oracle Database Server - You'll need to change the hostname from the duplicated one to 127.0.0.1
- Hyper-V server - Hyper-V encounters duplicate MAC addresses when the External switch is enabled, if the machine is cloned from FreshStart
- Google Chrome - Chrome might fail to launch properly on cloned machines if it retained a profile link to the Fresh Start machine, particularly if the Fresh Start machine wasn't fully shut down during cloning
- WSL - Windows System for Linux - Our testing has shown that DaDesktop machines with a WSL installation aren't portable. If you move a DaDesktop machine that includes WSL to another DD server, it won't boot successfully. The cause is unclear, but we suspect Windows ties itself to the underlying hardware, and the switch to a different server triggers the problem. Since WSL is seldom used for training (Linux is typically run directly), this issue hasn't been fully explored yet.
- Issues where a trial software licence uses the MAC address to track the licence - Here, the license was linked to a MAC address, so after cloning, the license appeared as already activated and consumed.

Any applications needing licenses may have to be installed after the FreshStart machine has been cloned.

Very slow Virtualbox seen when using Hyper-V and VirtualBox (This isn't specific to DaDesktop.)
Problem: VirtualBox runs extremely slowly on Windows machines, making it nearly impossible to run a course. Fortunately, the fix is very easy:-
Solution 1: Remove Hyper-V virtualization from Windows:https://www.wintips.org/fix-virtualbox-running-very-slow-in-windows-10-11/
Solution 2: Apply the Hyper-V Server workaround mentioned earlier; otherwise, duplicate MAC addresses occur, causing sluggish performance, slow boot times, and other odd behavior.
- Unable to type certain characters ie Apostrophes / Quotation Marks, Inverted Commas, into a DaDesktop machine.
